Registration question??

My cousin accidentally wrote on the title for the car that he just sold to me. He wrote underneath the mileage that it was a typo and that it was actually 86,000 instead of 96,000. Now the title says void if altered. Did he alter it by doing this? And if so what do we have to do? Thanks for your help!
